This course will provide brokers with information and guidance on how employers can be assisted to meet their workers’ compensation and injury management obligations under the Act.
Injury management should focus on early intervention and early return to work to get the best outcomes and mitigate escalating claim costs. This is an area employers typically require assistance with.
As a broker you are considered a trusted advisor, ready to communicate and improve collaboration between parties to provide your clients with the best service and manage their policy appropriately.
Brokers must be aware at all times not to provide legal advice to parties.
Objectives
This course will help brokers support employers to understand:
- the importance of an effective Injury Management System
- how to deal with an injury, including initial treatment, making a claim, and supporting the injured worker
- the insurers’ role in claims management
- return to work programs
- compensation payable
- common law and settlements
- the process for resolving disputes
- insurer service provider panels.
As the broker, you may need to help your clients with meeting their legal obligation to pay compensation, manage and facilitate rehabilitation and return to work. Brokers must be careful to not impede stakeholder compliance with legal obligations and clients should be aware brokers cannot provide legal advice.
